22 November: Kallops

Another stew. All the Nordic countries got lots of different dishes that is mostly boiled root vegetables and meat. Don’t real get it why we used to be so obsessed with boiling… The dish is a bit bland but add a allspice corn or two more to get some more flavor if you want, I would like that. Now we only got 8 more days left of Vegan Mofo but after this we we start with all the Christmas food and that is a lot. Maybe if I have time this weekend I’ll bake some saffron buns…..

Kallops

1 cup TVP chunks
2-3 carrots
1 onion
5-8 allspice corns
1 bay leaf
2 cups vegetable broth (if you have vegan beef stock it works excellent)
2tbsp corn starch mixed with some cold water (3-4 tbsp)

Boil the TVP according to the packet and then drain. Peel and chop the carrots into chunks. Quarter the onion.
Add all ingredients to a saute pan or other pot. Let it all slowly cook for 30-40 min. Add the corn starch and let it thicken.

Serve with potatoes, steamed vegetables and pickled beetroot. If you got some parsley then garnish with it as the dish isn’t very colorful.

  1. OH MY GOD; for some reason, I have never realized that allspice and kryddpeppar is the same thing. I’ve always thought about allspice as something exotic I had never seen. And then it’s kryddpeppar? It feels like a whole new world.
